Luckdown

The place: Boys and Girls club in Simi Valley
The event: Concert at the rec. center.
Status: Recreation center auditorium.
I have heard of Luckdown through a band that I refuse to
mention due to industry politics. After hearing "my wish" by Luckdown I decide to check them out at a venue when
I have a free minute. At first when I entered the venue I felt like I was at a
High school during the class break. This is the age group that most bands want
to see filling the crowd. The auditorium was at about 50% capacity and comprised
mostly of younger patrons. The
sound system was lightly distorted with a dirty sound as the bands played. I
wasn't expecting an award winning sound system from a recreation center however I
could hear the level of talent from the bands as they performed. Luckdown played
a short set that had pretty good stage presence and none of the members appeared
bored as they played. Their musical style reminds me of "Plain White
T's" with a little more anger in vocal delivery. Their visual style reminded me of the beginning
of the Doors movie as the members (except the drummer) would play standing
sideways to the crowd or facing away. Luckdown is Jon Tucker, Mark Murray, Joey
Simon, Kyle Schmunk and Cassie Simon. My only complaint was the DJ spinning
music that didn't fit in with the bands that were playing.
